Community and Fundraising Events:
Arizona Women's Conference
Hosted by COPE and Sponsored by Community Partnership of Southern Arizona (CPSA) and Pima County.
The Arizona Women's Conference (AWC) began in 2001 as an outcome of discussions among diverse groups of Arizona women. These Conference founders shared a commitment to helping women improve and advance their lives. The
se insightful women identified areas of common concern, established priorities, and recruited experts to address issues such as health and well being, employment and earnings, education, and political advocacy. Conference sessions and workshops offer participants specific techniques and approaches for creating and managing positive change in their lives. The mission of the AWC is to motivate and inspire women to take action for the future. The Conference pursues its mission with the generous support of community partners, corporations, local businesses, and private donors. COPE serves as the fiduciary for the AWC. For more than 30 years, COPE has been helping to improve the health and quality of life of Arizonans, and continues to support initiatives that strengthen women and the community. Celebrating its five-year anniversary, the AWC will be held at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort and Spa on September 12, 2008. This year's Conference theme is "Motivating, Inspiring, and Empowering Women."

AWC Fiesta de la Comunidad

Client Holiday Dinner
For 32 years, COPE has hosted an annual client holiday dinner during the first week of December for enrolled clients in Southern Arizona and surrounding areas. The event, featuring a raffle and entertainment provided by clients and the Rincon High School Choir, is held at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The dinner is a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings.
South Tucson Holiday Sharing Project
For the past 34 years, community leaders in the City of South Tucson have led a local effort benefiting needy children and families in the South Tucson community. Children from the ages of six months to twelve years of age have been able to enjoy the spirit of Christmas by participating. In many cases, this event is the only opportunity for some children to receive a gift during the holiday season. Each year a local community-based organization is designated to serve as the sponsor for this collaborative effort. COPE is honored to serve as the local sponsor for this endeavor.
South Tucson Gift Wrapping Party
This annual event brings together more than 300 people to wrap toys for both the South Tucson Children's Christmas Party and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Children's Christmas Party. This event also includes a silent auction.
South Tucson Children's Christmas Party
Every year the City of South Tucson blocks off South 11th Avenue between West 38th and 39th Streets. The South Tucson Fire Department delivers Santa aboard a fire truck to a large number of waiting children and families. Each child between the ages of six months and twelve years is presented with a wrapped toy from Santa, along with a gift of fruit, nuts, and candy. Lunch is made available to children and their families. There is musical entertainment, balloons, and special raffle gifts for the children in attendance. Local dignitaries, sponsors, contributors, and the media attend.

Community Health
African American HIV/AIDS Awareness Project
According to the Center for Disease Control, African Americans are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. African American women account for 67% of all new AIDS cases among women. African Americans as a whole account for roughly 50% of all AIDS cases to date. To address this issue COPE has partnered with community leaders and other agencies to help address the educational needs of the community as they relate to this disease. This effort includes educational classes, forums, community mobilization, and advocate and trainer training in collaboration with the Southern Arizona Chapter of the Red Cross. In addition, COPE collaborates with the African American Disparities Alliance to increase community awareness and to educate and promote HIV testing of African Americans.
Health Fairs
Several times a year community health fairs are held at various locations and are sponsored by COPE and other community organizations.
Meth Free Alliance
The Meth Free Alliance (MFA) is committed to reducing the negative impact of methamphetamine at all community levels through legal, legislative, grassroots, and personal action and through active partnerships. Since March 2005, COPE has served the MFE by providing infrastructure support and fiscal management to the group's grassroots activities including an annual Faith-Based Summit, support for the Pima County Drug Endangered Children's Vehicle, as well as the "Tucson Neighbors Building Community" focused neighborhood project.
National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD)
This event is sponsored by the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF) and COPE.
